Merchandise Identity Design

Penguin Books Merchandise Identity

D&AD New Blood Awards, a competition for designers gave out one of many briefs out to designers to create well thought out designs for an opportunity to win the award.

One of the briefs was for Penguin books with the goal being to create a new merchandise identity which would cater mainly to Gen Z, without alienating current and future readers.

A cute felt wool pillow from the Penguin Books logo for readers to use while reading a Penguin book.

What better to have wrapped around you than a Penguin Books themed heated blanket while reading a book in Winter.

A vinyl wall decal to place in the home showing guests and reminding the reader of their passion for books, with quotes from their favourite books or authors.

A penguin Books themed blackout blind.

This library bookshelf wallpaper was created with AR integrated connectivity. Sporadic books have a QR code printed on them which when scanned direct the user to a weekly competition for the user to take part in.

All the merchandise put together in one space in the home.

UKG Greeting Card Line

YCN, another company that runs a design competition for designers to get involved with and win a coveted prize, provided several project brief options, with a greeting card company design as one of them.

With digital technology fast taking over the print industry it seemed a logical idea to integrate the two. This would be to include the print side of the idea into the design so as not to alienate a large part of the company's business, and to include the technology that a younger generation is predominantly using at the moment.

AR - Augmented Reality, is used to interpret a QR code printed on the product, using a smart device, and launch a 3Dimensional image of whatever the QR code is programmed to show.

In this case, a turtle, which could be in motion or still.

Whether it be a smartphone, tablet or home computer the user can access the AR image.

Other products include a notebook as well as a gift bag.

Gift wrapping paper.

The QR code is also available on apparel.
